The all-electric Nissan LEAF eligible for up-to $8,250 incentive
As the manufacturer of the best-selling all-electric vehicle in history, Nissan congratulates the Government of British Columbia on its recently announced BC Clean Energy Vehicle Program, which provides incentives for British Columbia residents who purchase an electric vehicle.
As of April 1, 2015 when the new program goes into effect, the all-electric Nissan LEAF™ is eligible for the full $5,000 incentive in British Columbia. In addition, the recently announced SCRAP-IT® program offers consumers purchasing a qualifying new electric vehicle, and who scrap their model year 2000 or older vehicle, to receive a $3,250 rebate. With the 2015 Nissan LEAF starting at $31,798, and factoring both incentives, consumers can drive emission-free in the reasonable $25,000 price range.
“At Nissan, we are thrilled by the Province of British Columbia’s decision to enrich its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through the BC Clean Energy Vehicle Program,” says Christian Meunier, president of Nissan Canada Inc. “British Columbia was an early supporter of electric mobility, and the first province in Canada to commit to working with us to promote the adoption of electric vehicles almost five years ago. We are pleased that zero-emission vehicles like the Nissan LEAF are now even more accessible to consumers in BC looking to make a change in the way they drive.”
The BC Clean Energy Vehicle Program also commits $1.59-milion for investments in infrastructure to support public charging of green vehicles.
“The Nissan LEAF has the highest customer satisfaction rates of any vehicle we have produced so far because of its convenience, low cost of operation and owner evangelism,” said Meunier. “The announcement today propels the ‘convenience’ factor. With an expanded electric vehicle infrastructure, B.C. residents can re-charge while running errands or at work which makes driving an EV even more appealing to those considering going electric.”
The Nissan LEAF is the world’s best-selling all-electric vehicle amassing over 165,000 sales since its launch in 2010. In Canada, the Nissan LEAF shattered its own sales record last year. Nissan sold 1,085 LEAF vehicles in 2014, up 131 per cent over 2013, making it the best-selling all-electric vehicle in Canada. To date, Nissan LEAF owners worldwide have covered more than one billion all-electric kilometres, keeping an estimated 222 billion kilograms of CO2 out of the atmosphere.
The Nissan LEAF was launched in early 2011 in Canada, followed by a revised version introduced in mid-2013 with over 100 improvements led by customer feedback. Now in its fifth model year, the highly innovative, industry-leading Nissan LEAF pure electric vehicle features builds on an extensive list of important enhancements. Nissan LEAF is assembled in the United States at Nissan’s Smyrna, Tenn. assembly plant, with battery production taking place right next door in the country’s largest lithium-ion automotive battery plant.
